Awards, honors, and appointments recently received by University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine faculty.
Martine Dunnwald, PharmD, PhD, research associate professor in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, has been appointed president-elect of the American Association for Anatomy’s board of directors. She has been a AAA member for more than 15 years and currently serves on the group’s diversity, equity, and inclusion committee.
Donna Hammond, PhD, professor in the Department of Anesthesia, has been appointed to the Roy J. Carver Chair in the Iowa Neuroscience Institute. Hammond studies the neurobiology of the central and peripheral nervous system pathways that convey pain.

Kari Harland, PhD, MPH, assistant professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine, and Heath Davis, assistant director for biomedical informatics in the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science, were among 21 individuals honored with 2020 University of Iowa Faculty and Staff Awards.
Rainbo Hultman, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics, is one of three recipients of the 2021 Neurobiology of Brain Disorders Awards from the McKnight Endowment Fund. Hultman will use the award in her research to create a brain-wide map of the electrical activity present in migraines.
Rachael Nicholson, MD (07R, 09F), clinical associate professor in the Department of Surgery, has been selected to serve on the Resident Review Committee for Surgery within the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. Nicholson is program director for the integrated vascular surgery residency and vascular surgery fellowship programs.
Matthew Potthoff, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Neuroscience and Pharmacology, has been appointed to the Roy J. Carver Endowed Professorship in Neuroscience and Pharmacology. Potthoff’s research explores how peripheral hormonal cues signal the brain to control body weight and blood glucose levels.
