With its April 28 opening, the North Liberty campus join UI Health Care’s university and downtown campuses in establishing a three-campus system of care. The North Liberty facility is a major component of the university’s facilities master plan to modernize facilities and expand access for complex and critical patient care to Iowans while facilitating clinical research and education.
“The opening of the North Liberty campus will mean greater access to high-quality orthopedics care that Iowans need—and that a connected academic system can serve” says Denise Jamieson, MD, MPH, UI vice president for medical affairs and the Tyrone D. Artz Dean of the Carver College of Medicine. “There will be close coordination between the university’s medical campuses in North Liberty and Iowa City for faculty, staff, and patients.”
Establishing the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation at North Liberty also will create space for patient care services, education and training, and clinical research at the university campus, notes Brad Haws, MBA, CEO of UI Health Care’s clinical enterprise.
“Space at our university campus is in high demand—nearly all of our clinical departments can use additional space to treat patients, teach students and trainees, and conduct clinical research,” Haws says. “We will be intentional in planning how to renovate newly available space and determining what services may move or expand at our university—and downtown—campuses.”
