1960s

  

David Mulder (69F), who specialized in chest surgery, received an honorary degree from the University of Saskatchewan. This award recognizes those who have made a significant contribution to their community.  

  

1980s

David Asprey (89BS-PA program) received the Outstanding Service Award from the Physician Assistant Education Association (PAEA). Asprey has served as editor-in-chief of PAEA’s Journal of Physician Assistant Education for nearly 10 years. 

Joseph Gascho, MD (80F), recently published Heart & Soul: A Cardiologist's Life in Verse, chronicling his time growing up in rural Nebraska and why he decided to become a cardiologist. 

John Lohnes (82MD, 86R) was selected as a Healthcare Hero by the Wichita Business Journal in 2020. He also co-authored a paper in June 2021 issue of the Journal of the American College of Radiology on independent practices in radiology with Kamran Ali (97MD). Lohnes stepped down from clinical practice in July 2021 and is involved in planning a physician-owned preferred provider organization in Kansas. He also serves on legislative committees for the state and local medical societies.  

1990s

Anthony Brenneman (96MPAS), program director of the UI Department of Physician Assistant Program Studies and Services, has taken a new position as chair of the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant Inc., the accrediting body for PA programs. 

Scott Guenthner (98MD, 98F), president of the Dermatology Center of Indiana, is the founding physician of Optima Dermatology, with multiple locations across the Midwest and the Northeast. 

Theresa E. Hegmann, MPAS (91BS-PA Program), received the 2021 Article of the Year Award from the Physician Assistant Education Association. She received the award for her paper titled, “Scholarly Productivity and Occupational Stress Among Physician Assistant Educators.” 

2000s

Jesse N. Mills (01MD), health sciences professor of urology at UCLA, published A Field Guide to Men's Health, Eat Right, Stay Fit, Sleep Well and Have Great Sex Forever. 

Lyndsay Harshman (11MD, 14F,16F) was named to the Corridor Business Journal’s “Forty Under 40” list, which recognizes individuals for their professional success and community involvement. Harshman is medical director of the pediatric kidney transplant program at UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital. 

Colin Kealey (07MD) has been promoted to president of NeuroSigma Inc., a bioelectronic medical device company in Los Angeles. 

  

Daniel Runde (09MD, 16MME) was named to the Corridor Business Journal’s “Forty Under 40” list for his dedication to educating future providers and his work with the Iowa Harm Reduction Coalition. Runde is a clinical associate professor in the UI Department of Emergency Medicine. 

  

2010s

Denver Brown (11MPAS), a certified physician assistant at Winona Health in Winona, Minnesota, received the 2021 Preceptor of the Year Award from the Carver College of Medicine Department of Physician Assistant Studies and Services. 

Sarina Martini (11MD), UI clinical assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology, was voted the "Most Trusted Physician" in Little Village magazine.  

Eric Monson (18MD, 18PhD) has matched with the child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the Huntsman Mental Health Institute at the University of Utah. His clinical and research interests include psychiatric genetics, mood disorders, and suicidal behavior. 

  

Matthew Traxler (18MD) has completed his residency training at the University of Kansas School of Medicine–Wichita Family Medicine Residency Program at Ascension Via Christi Hospitals. He is now in the medical education fellowship and joined the faculty at the UI Carver College of Medicine. 

  

2020s

  

Tathyana Fensterer, MD, PHD (19F), recently joined Baptist Health Medical Group’s plastic and reconstructive surgery team in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.  

  

In memoriam

  

Linda Natalie Meyers Fahr (68MD, 74R), of Houston, passed away Dec. 5, 2021. Fahr’s radiology career spanned 38 years, 18 of which she oversaw radiology departments. She and a group of like-minded female radiologists formed the American Association of Women for Radiology in 1982.
